The Heorman name has changed
spelling for over a period of five centuries. The
original spelling of the name began with Herman. This
was about 1500 when Seuefferlin Herman was born. His
son Hans still had the same spelling as did his son Jorg.
Jorg had a son named Jorg and the spelling changed to
Horman. Jorg's son Jorg Simon added another n to last
name making it Hormann. Jorg Simon's son Georg David
kept the same spelling.
Georg David's son Georg
Michael again changed the spelling of the last name to
Hoerrmann. Georg Michael Hoerrmann was born in Germany
in 1778 and died in 1813. Georg Michael's son Johann
Christoph Adam kept the same spelling, and his son Johann
Georg Casper kept the same spelling. Johann Georg
Casper was born in 1842 in Germany and died in 1911 in
Kansas.
The Hoerrmann family came to America in 1883,
before their last son was born. Johann's sons later
shortened the spelling of Hoerrmann to Hoerman. Johan
Georg who was born in 1872 was the only son to use the
spelling of Heorman for the last name. Johan Georg's
three sons Floyd, George, and Paul used the spelling
Heorman, although on Floyd's social security number it was
still legally spelled Hoerman.
The Heorman spelling
actually took effect with the birth of Floyd's son, because
the doctor made a mistake on the birth certificate and
spelled it Heorman. Johann Georg Casper's other sons,
which were Andreas (Andrew), Ludwig and Julius used the
Hoerman spelling.
